Wait, what? You want to know?

So I am guessing if you have gotten this far you are probably asking yourself ‘What makes Swords and Sorcery special?’  I know people want to know what it is about this system that is different, unique and special, and over my next few blogs, I am going to explain what it is that I feel makes it so special.  The thing is, what makes it special beyond all else is the complexity of the system.  It is not chaotic and not extremely hard, and as much as I would love to tell people who have never played a Pen and Paper game that this game is for them, truth be told they are better off playing one of the many dozens of systems out there that now cater to getting new players, like Dungeons and Dragons 4e, Warhammer, the White Wolf Series, than they are with Swords and Sorcery.

Swords and Sorcery is a far more complex game than most Pen and Paper games that are coming out on the market today.  The complexity does not extend to the actual game play but rather in the starting of the game, and this can make it very daunting to people new to the RPG world.  The game was designed by players tired of how watered down the new systems are, designed for players who have time to learn a more complicated system that gives them a better feel of control and capability than before.  And to do this, I have focused on two major aspects of the game in order to make it better for players that want more.  The two aspects come from character creation, most notably character classes or lack there of, and combat itself, something many gamers complain about.

Over the course of my next few blogs as I simply do not have the time to do it now, I will get into a bit more detail about both the Character Creation portion and Combat.  Until then, peace favor.

Sounds like an interesting idea. My group would certainly be interested in this. My main question is if this system is linked to a setting in a general sense? Aka is this meant for heroic fantasy, modern games, realistic dramas, ect or is it meant as a generic system to overlay your setting on ala GURPs.

That is actually a great question and one I have no problem delving into. In a couple of blogs I will be describing the setting of the world a bit better, but for now the system is based in a fantasy world, though with a little self done tweaking it can easily be adjusted to become a modern setting instead. One of the parts I actually plan on working after the core rules are out is a supplement working with magical enhancements, or better known as bionics completed with magic instead of biology. Just to reiterate, the world I created for Swords and Sorcery is a fantasy world with knights, castles, armies of sword bearing orcs, and deadly elven wizards, but really what is a short sword but a medieval M9, and a long sword but a medieval M16?
